I'd been looking around through all these other artists' stuff, wondering why they had things that looked so much better than mine. Speed painting thingies always kinda irritated me because... not to toot my own horn, but I pride myself in how easily art comes to me... but speed painting was that idea to the Nth degree.
So... frustrated while working on my comic, I decided to experiment with that idea.
I started by taking a single frame, where Amy is about to retaliate against an attack Sarah is charging. Did a nice solid basecolor over the lines, choosing to ignore them and not use linework this time around. Tried using a 15% opacity brush on a separate layer for shade, and it just wasnt working.
Then, I just tried taking mistake areas and re-sampling paint nearby it to patch things up instead of erasing them. Results quickly improved.
I continued this process... and did this whole painting in approx 35 minutes. I'm almost in shock. Did I just do a pretty good quality speed-paint for my first time ever?
I am debating on doing all of my comic in this style... however albeit this is definitely Amy... it just isnt Amy. I don't know if my comic was intended to be this realistic.
I AM however planning on using this painting style for a dark elf commission a certain lady has lined up for me after my currently focused one.
If anyone has an opinion, let me hear it! Continue with a more comfortable, cartoony style for my comic, or try to paint it like this?
this is pretty cool on its own even when it reminds me so much of the very old movie Dune but the choise of art is yours and yours alone

With the 27 keys of Tzeentch we unlock the world for our brothers, with the thousands whispers of Slaanesh we call to them and with the mighty axe of Khorne we cut open the world for them...
Oh, does that work well, then? I find digital painting really difficult in general, and the soft, smooth quality of many of the painters on here such as ~kamillyonsiya really, really fascinating. I'd love to learn to paint like that.
Of course, I'd also love to learn how to use the go**amn pen tool properly because my inked lineart sucks, and it would be sharper if I could ink it with vector art.

i think trying something new is always exciting but if your trying to meet deadlines and what not i suggest going with a comfortable style and using a newer style for profile pages, or comic covers or spreads till you get more use to it

Ah that's the thing about space, the prettier it is the more likely it is to kill you
yea, thats what I've decided to go for. I have a bright, confident, newfound passion for good painting like this, but I think I'm going to stick to a more comical style for the comic. Too serious wont fit their expressions!

wow, that guy is good. i think ill study his techniques a while.
Hehehe. Yea, practice linework! For some reason i just kinda took to this painting. That thrills me to pieces, so I'll be using my commissions as practice for that. My comics need to stay comick-y.

Maybe you should keep what you have going and only use this type of thing for chapter header art.
Just kidding man, it's a great improvement and definitely a level-up for your coloring skills. Cheers!
